While living in Witt, I have noticed certain things about the electronics. I mostly mean the internet and phone service. You can either connect to a wireless internet or a direct hook up. Both are about the same I believe. Both are also very inconsistent. I am able to freely surf the internet with no problems sometimes, but other times the internet takes forever or can't even connect. I especially get annoyed when I am playing Xbox. I enjoy playing online with my friends a lot, and the internet cuts in and out making it hard to play. The ITS people keep scheduling maintenance times, so I hope that they are working to make the internet better. I don't really use the phone very often, but it does ring a lot. When the phone rings, most of the time it is solicitations. I get voicemails occasionally, but I don’t have the password to check them. I must have missed that tutorial. The phone also has an annoying ring tone that usually scares me, but also I am not sure how to change that. Overall I am disappointed in the internet and bothered by the phone. I hope the internet will improve and solicitors will stop calling.

Sleeping in Witt
I have realized that sleeping in Witt has good things and bad things to it. Witt runs from north to south, and the rooms in Witt only have windows on the west side. Therefore, in the morning it stays very dark in your room because the sun does not directly shine in your room. A bad thing is that Witt echoes really badly. It then makes noises seem much louder than they are on the floor. We do have quite hours from eleven at night to six in the morning, but not everyone follows those rules. Another good thing about Witt for sleeping is that the rooms stay very cool. I like to be cool while I am sleeping. I can absolutely not sleep if I am hot and sweating. The mattresses in Witt are decent. I have a mattress pad over the mattress in order to maximize comfort, and I really like how comfortable the bed is. I also have an extra long bed, which is great considering I am 6’4”. All the beds in Witt are singles, which is standard in most dorms. Overall I sleep really well in Witt dorm. I love sleeping, so this is a big factor in my everyday life.

Room Options
While living in Witt dorm, I have discovered that there are many options and configurations that you can do with your dorm. The beds can lay single by themselves, or you can bunk the beds together and save space. There is a fairly large walk in closet in each room. My roommate and I have split the closet in half to share to space. There are 16 total drawers in the room. I believe that there are plenty of drawers for all of my stuff. I don't even use all of the drawers in the room. I believe that all of these drawers are very good for using the space efficiently in the small dorm room. There is also room underneath both the beds to put more items. I believe the shelves on the wall are also very good for keeping my room clean and organized. I store items, such as my printer, xbox, and books, on these shelves. The room comes with a refrigerator and a microwave. I have stacked these on top of each other in order to conserve space. Overall I believe they room is pretty good. The room allows you to be creative and organized with your belongings at the same time.

Witt Bathroom
Today I am going to cover the bathrooms in Witt. There are some good things and some bad things about these bathrooms. The bathrooms connect two rooms, so four people share the bathroom. There are only four small drawers and counter space to keep all of your belongings. This causes the counter area to be a little over crowded and dirty. There is stall in the bathroom where the toilet is located. This provides more privacy for someone that is going to the bathroom. You can use the toilet with other people in the bathroom. The shower in the bathroom is pretty good. There is a good amount of space for you in the shower and the shower head is not too low. I am 6'4", so a higher shower head is really good. The water temperature is generally good. If you are the first person to shower, then it might take a little longer to get hot water. One issue with the temperature is that it fluctuates to burning hot every now and then. I have a theory on why it does that though. I believe that every time a toilet is flushed in the dorm, the water temperature goes to burning hot. If you listen closely you can hear when the pipes move. This sound warns you to get out of the way of the water. You can then save yourself from being burned. Overall I believe the bathrooms are pretty good, but have a few down sides.

Witt dorm is a good place to live as far as I can tell from my first month of living here. I moved in a week early because of football, so I have a little extra time then most people have here. Over the year I am going to talk about the good things and the bad things about living in Witt dorm. Today I am going to start off with a bad thing. Living at Witt gives the residents a really good air conditioning system. I definitely mean really good air conditioning. There are no thermostats or anything to control the temperature here. It just stays at a nice 60 degrees I would say. First couple of weeks you are just kind of figuring it out and maybe you put a sweatshirt on or something. Who would have thought to bring a sweatshirt to San Antonio in August? I have learned as long as many others on the hall a good solution to the problem. When you are in the room leave the door to the balcony open. Although it may bring in loud sounds at times, this will significantly increase the temperature in room. That is of course if it is the usual weather outside. You then are not quite as freezing in your room. I am currently trying to figure out some way to block the air conditioning from blowing, so that on cold or gross days you have a good solution. I am worried about when the winter rolls around though. Although the winters are mild here, combined with the air conditioning it could get bad. I hope that the temperature in the rooms will adjust in the winter, but for now all I can do is hope.
